Indian Idol 3 finalist Meiyang Chang from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, is reportedly making his big screen debut alongside Shahid Kapoor.

The film, which is actor Parmeet Sethi’s directorial debut, also stars Anushka Sharma and is being produced by Yash Raj Films.

Chang, as he’s affectionately known in the industry, has been strictly prohibited from talking about his acting debut.

Indian Idol star Proshant Tamang and Amit Paul arrived at Dhaka on 16 January to perform in concerts. The event organizer Antor Show Biz’s stuffs and their fans received them with warm welcome. The starts performed last evening at Hotel Regency. Some other star singers of Bangladesh named Hasan, Shuvo and band group Neeloy also performed in this event. The starts are going to perform at Fantasy Kingdom today. Biplob, Tishma, Shuvo, Mila and Deshi MCS are also going to perform in this event. The program is sponsored by Pepsi.

The news that the first Indian Idol winner Abhijeet Sawant will represent India in the reality show ‘Asian Idol’ has not gone down well with the second season’s winner Sandeep Acharya.

According to Sandeep, the Sony channel was to hold a competition between the winners of the three seasons of ‘Indian Idol’ to choose the contestant for ‘Asian Idol’. Now Sandeep is aghast at being kept in the dark.

Sony Entertainment Television is strongly denying the rumours going around that there is some rigging going in Indian Idol voting process. An offical source said, “We have a reputed third party organization which audits the voting process, which is very fair. People are wrongly blaming us for Emon’s and Chang’s Ouster, You don’t vote for the right singer, and then cry about a lesser person coming ahead. Prashant has a sizable number of people in his home area and the police force who are voting en block , so he is winning.”

The source went on, “Don’t the judges (Alisha wanted to walk out ) also complain about audiences voting pattern? Although Emon was a good singer, we alway knew that he will be out, because he did not have required public support.”

On the question of making the vote figures public, our source said, “The format( Indian idol is international format) does not allow for the same . And secondly, if we do give the voting figures, will it not affect the next rounds result?”. Taking a dig at the opposition, the source further went on to say that both those shows(Sa Re Gama SVOI) are homegrown and could have had the judges saving the contestants( which we cannot do, due to above format restriction) , but even then they prefer to ape us.

When reminded that something similar had happened during Qazi victory in Fame Gurukul2, the source empathetically denied any wrong doing even then too. “We Indian’s like the underdog and support him, hence Qazi came ahead.. So please vote for your favorite contestant rather then just crib.”

Actor Govinda, who is all set for the release of his film Partner with Salman Khan this Friday, will be a special guest on Sony’s indian Idol.

The episode featuring the actor will be aired on 20 July. Partner too, releases on the same day and is being seen as Govinda’s second coming to Hindi film industry.

The gala round of Indian Idol will see the last 10 contestants vying for the judges’ attention. Govinda will join the show to offer his advice and encourage participants who are chasing their dream of becoming the next singing sensation.

The Gorkha Students’ Union Dimapur (GSUD) has also celebrated the193rd birth anniversary of Adi Kabi Bahnu Acharya with the rest of the world on Friday with Akum Longchari, managing director and publisher of Morung Express as the chief guest.

Bhanu Bhakata Acharya the pioneer of Nepali language the first ever poet and author amongst millions of Nepalese also known as Adi Kabi who was born on 1814 in Tanahu district of Nepal is being remembered for his great and immense contribution to the Nepali community.

Akum Longchari termed Bhanu as a great “social reformer” and said that it was his humbleness which had left a relevant inspiration to the populace of present generation.

Akum also stated that the legacy of the great social reformer had left a deep impact to the people which are still relevant to the present humanity.

The teaching of Bhanu reflects the values of life and his contribution was not focused to Gorkha community alone but also to the whole human race. “It enriched the culture, language and the values of life,” Akum said and described the Gorkhas as honest and dignified people.

A brief life sketch of Bhanu was delivered by Suk Kumar Pradhan, president Gorkha Union Dimapur and short speech was also delivered by Mayang Jamir, general secretary of DNSU. During the celebration thirteen students from HSSLC and HSLC were felicitated.

Earlier the programme started with the welcome address by Rupak Chetri followed by garlanding of the portrait by the chief guest while the vote of thanks was proposed by Rajesh Gurung.

The programme was followed by a cultural entertainment from various groups of Gorkhas.

Meanwhile, the Gorkha students union has wished all the best to the Prashant Tamang, Indian Idol and requested all individuals to cast their vote for him.

The Indian Idol contestants did not have a clue of what was in store for them when they sat chatting with Mini Mathur for the weekly episode of Roobaroo . There was singing, dancing and even acting! In a hilarious performance Parleen and Ankita enacted the golden fiftees’ hit song Awaaz de kahaan hai…! In the middle of all the fun and games they had a surprise visitor on the sets. There standing in their midst was none other than Abhijeet Sawant, the first Indian Idol!

Abhijeet was delighted to be back on the sets of the show that took him to dizzying heights of popularity. He was happy to see familiar faces on the sets. He said he missed his team of Indian Idol as he sat there on the same show once again. “A big difference this time is that I came in my own car and not a borrowed one as I did during my Indian Idol days!” he said happily. Abhijeet has been keenly following Indian Idol. Pointing to Amit Paul he said, “You are progressing in the same pattern that I did, so work hard you just might be the next Indian Idol!” Amit was so thrilled he obliged Abhijeet by singing a Telugu song. Abhijeet reciprocated by singing a Bengali one to the delight of all the Bongs present! The contestants had a whale of time bombarding Abhijeet with questions and doubts plaguing them. The star that he is now, Abhijeet answered each one of their queries with honesty and was seen offering tips way after the lights went out.

On Roobaroo special telecast on Thursday Mini mentioned about Richa’s exit and the contestants were asked about their feelings for Richa. Prashant and Amit were asked to sing the song ‘Yeh Dosti’ first in Hindi and then in English as they have become best friends like Jay and Veeru of Sholay. Then an award function was shown in which the Ganga Jamna Saraswati Award was given to Smita and the Natak Baaz Puraskar was awarded to Abhishek. Mini gave a tissue paper roll to Smita as award. After that the performance of Charu, Deepali and Ankita that they gave when they were in Lucknow was shown and then their visit to the Radio city was shown. Lastly the contestants were shown rehearsing for the galas.

Milan Singh along with his parents was invited to be a guest on the show Indian Idol telecast on SET Asia which was a dream come true for Milan. Milan Thakur, the eldest son of a family fled to Mumbai from Bengusarai near Patna to be a part of Indian idol. He confessed that “I love music and singing and wanted to take part in Indian Idol that is why I did what I did”. The boy took forty thousand rupees from his home and came to Mumbai with his two friends, a man who befriended them on the train to Mumbai helped them to get rooms in a city hotel for Rs 400/day. They roamed the streets and even slept at railway platforms when the money got over. The point to be noted is that running away from home does not always end in a musical journey, as all are not as lucky as Milan.

All the contestants performed well on the performance round. On Saturday night the show Indian Idol 3 started with presenting a family who came from Pakistan to meet the Indian Idol 3 participants, they wished the contestants and invited them to Pakistan. Then the contestants sang the Roobaroo 4 theme. Then Smita entered the stage with a complete makeover which suited her very well. The judges were asked to take the name of one contestant and all the three judges except Javed Akhtar who was absent took the name of Jolly. Then the contestants were asked to vote out one name and most of the people voted against smita. The hosts announced the names of the persons who were in the bottom four, they were Emon, Deepali, Smita and Jolly. The judges were shocked to see Emon and deepali in the bottom four. Jolly Das was the unlucky one who got eliminated in the second galas. At first jolly took it sportingly and she sang the song ‘Gazab Ka Hain Din’ towards the end of the song she broke down to tears and all the other contestants of Indian Idol 3 were shown consoling her.

Indian Idol 3 is not just another talent hunt show, it is the most involving and entertaining show that one can ever see on Television.
